Pan Arcadia’s Bowery Ballroom show kicked off with three beach balls (looking like their signature globe graphic, no less) getting tossed into the crowd as the band launched into their high-energy single, “American Altar.” For the next hour, those beach balls would dance above a lively crowd present for a cathartic and fun rock show.

Hailing from right here in New York City, Pan Arcadia has been making waves in and beyond our thriving local rock scene. Their garage rock revival comes to us on a soulful indie sound that seems to meet the world at a perfect moment. Frontman Eamon Rush’s vocals totally evoke those of The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, but his smooth, rich tone makes for something that feels both nostalgic and deeply touching.

Their latest EP, Life: as if i know it, released in February this year, is a testament to the essence of how the group’s sound has solidified since their 2022 debut. The title track is a perfect example, blending rock ‘n’ roll elements with an anthemic chorus and the always welcomed Pan Arcadia addition of a groovy horn section. The four track EP moves through grungy riffs and joyful jams, finding both dynamic range and cohesion and getting their loyal fanbase excited for more music to come.

Their set was teed up with an awesome ticket including three other local bands each bringing a unique sound to the night. Jet Daisy kicked off with some punk rock that was picked up by Um Jennifer?’s energetic stage. Followed by DUUNES whose theatrical alt-rock made for a fantastic live space.

The energy in the room for Pan Arcadia’s show came as no surprise – it’s always fun watching the band on stage together with that palpable musical and performance chemistry. This show was definitely no exception. The band rocked out individually and together, with an orange cap playfully passed between members throughout the set. They also treated the audience to some unreleased tracks, including the bright, nostalgic “Limousines” and the cheeky “Beer Shot Combo,” both of which definitely kept the crowd movin’.

If you’re new to Pan Arcadia, they’re definitely a group to dive into. In a way, their music and electric stage feel momentous to the indie rock waves we’re experiencing in New York City. The show experience is rowdy in a way that makes you feel like a part of something people will look back on and remember – reminiscent of the music music culture that came before it, yet entirely new and totally now.
